Our Story

Responding to a need in the community for quality Early Years Education and Care, The Gums Childcare was established by Alex and Sid Nicholls in 2006. Alex has a Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/ Primary) and a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (In Service). She had previously worked for five years teaching in the Clare Valley before establishing The Gums with her husband Sid. Alex has a passion for the outdoor learning environment and in Nature Play and this is reflected in the centre’s expansive outdoor gardens and adjoining Bush Block.

The Gums provides families from Clare and surrounding areas with an integrated, play centred early learning program influenced by world recognised Reggio Emilia philosophy and practice.
